Dearest Edie,
I have one question and although I suppose they send you hundreds of messages and you don't have time to answer them all,I will ask anyhow...My question is this: is copa a position or all the procedure to bring the lady inside and then take her out again? Is it called ''in and out'' unofficially because most of the times we take the lady out

"Dear Edie,
I have a situation. I had a dance recently with a woman and we were doing great on the dancefloor until she started "re-affirming" what I was doing, and asking if she did this right, did that right... it was like, "Was I supposed to turn there?.... Did I do too many

Dear Edie
I live in on the east coast and have followed your articles for years. You are a great inspiration to me. I have a nagging question and just know you are the one to ask.
I am 41 years old and a pretty good dancer. I practice all the time. I STUDY dancing...videos, you tube, performances, classes, private lessons, etc. But you know what - my dancing SUCKS (well maybe doesn't suck, but is nowhere

"Dear Edie,
I’m just writing to say hello. I will start by saying what I’m sure hundreds of others have already said: in your brilliant writing you make yourself so plainly understood and convey the complex and wonderful joy of the Salsa experience so clearly that it’s hard not to think of you as an old friend. :-)
But I will add this. Although I am a man I am a feminist, and although I work with computers for a living I hate browsing the web. I know you have a strong dislike for ‘feminism’ and you are evidently a Web Freak so why

"Dear Edie,
I first would like to thank you for an incredible website. However, I have been frequently disappointed by your articles concerning feminism. I have always believed, and I think most feminists and dictionaries would agree with me that a feminist is a person

"Dear Edie,
As a member of a [certain dance group] I found my self in a situation that I didn't expect. We were working on a choreography for a merengue, sort of like a Casina Rueda but it turned out that one of the girls that recently joined had certain body fragrances that

I saw your article about long hair, but I really can't go to a salon every time I go dancing. My hair is halfway down my back and pretty thick, so when guys spin me it slaps them in the face if it's in a ponytail or it gets tangled in our arms if we try to do

HEY LADY,
I absolutely love your web site, and I need help here. You probably have put some advice on this already. I did read up on the taking a small towel with you when you go out dancing, but what is a Salsera to do when she is the one that sweats up a storm?

"Dear Edie,
First I want to tell you that I enjoy your web sight. It's funny, informative, and honest with THE BEST ON THE INTERNET for helpful tips regarding the Salsa world. My name is [name] and yes, I got bitten by the Salsa bug. I just started a routine where I am taking one to two classes a week. Just when I start feeling confident, I goof on the dance floor. I know

"Dear Edie,
I had a question about how you approach the dance as you become more proficient in your dancing. If you want to put this in one of your columns, feel free. Just leave my name off. Before I get, started, I want to say that I love dancing with all levels of dancers. I'm not becoming a snob.* I've been hitting the clubs at least four times a

"Dear Edie, I'll try to write you at my best, but please excuse me for my bad english (I'm not American). I need some advice from you.
I've recently discovered the "Salsa World" and I have immediately fell in love with it. I started going in the nightclubs and dancing. I'm also taking a group class, but I'm not satisfied.

"Dear Edie,
I was wondering how many gay or lesbian Salseros you know. Because Salsa is such a male-female arrangement (as most couples dances are I suppose) I suspect that gay salseros must be in hiding. I certainty wouldn't expect them to dance with members of their own gender in mainstream settings (although women seem to be able to get away with this without anyone freaking out).
I once had the privilege of going to a gay Salsa club in Queens, NY while on vacation (itwas across

Dear Edie,
My friends and I go dancing several nights a week in an effort to meet women, yet despite dancing with maybe 20 or 30 different partners during the course of a typical week we always seem to fail in the "lurve" stakes. I've suggested to my friend that

"Dear Edie,
I used to always wear something real "hot" to go dancing. People didn't exactly fall in line to dance with me though, and I figured it was because I'm white and I haven't established myself as a Salsera here in [the city]. One night, a Friday, I was so tired from work that I didn't change for [a hot Salsa club]: I just wore black slacks and a simple, conservative white blouse. I never sat down. So many men asked me to dance! So I've experimented with this and got a lot more conservative about my dress- and now a lot more people ask me to dance. It's so strange because I see lots of Latinas dressed, say, in midriff-baring tops and hotpants, but I guess a white girl who's showing it off just looks like trash, even if she CAN dance. (Or maybe it's just me and the fact is I look BAD dressed in those kind of outfits)

I enjoy your column. Insightful, humorous and true in many respects. However, I must qualify your statement about Take a Private Lesson to Get Better...when women say no.
I believe you are being a bit simplistic in your explanation of what constitutes a no. As in any situation, prejudices abound in some form or another and there may well

So now I'll come out straight, how, or what do you think about ...age..., where do you think age becomes a matter (if it already does), or age becomes a bother (i hope it never will). Though I do not like to admit it I am not in my twenties anymore. Its a lot worse I am 39. Now

"Dear Edie,
I would really appreciate any other suggestions, especially about confidence and self confidence."
- Lacking"
Dear Lacking,
Confidence comes with time and experience. You can’t force it, you must "become it". It happens in the gray matter between your ears. Confidence comes from falling on your face, then picking yourself up again, and starting over. Confidence comes from overcoming great internal mental obstacles. Confidence cannot be purchased, bargained for, nor given. It must be earned. Convincing your mind that you are something you believe you are not, is the beginning of changing your mental blocks. We are what we think about, all day long.

"Dear Edie,
In the ballroom world, we teach that you should either accept an invitation to dance, or choose to sit out the dance; invitations from complete strangers are both common and welcome. We also recommend changing partners with each dance.
