• Lazy Arm

    Dear Edie,
I would be interested to know if any other guys out there have danced with girls which have "Lazy Arm Syndrome"

Some girls seem to unconsciously forget to support there right arm while dancing leaving it to the guy to hold there arm up. They seem to be unaware that they are doing this and even when told (in the nicest possible way) they seem to have only limited success in correcting it. I have even tried getting them to support the weight of my arm which seems to work for a few minutes before they forget and relax again. I am sure I can't be the only person to come across this.

    Dear FiddlerCrab,
You said "a few minutes..." An entire Salsa song lasts "a few minutes..." Are you holding up their arm the whole song? More than 50% of the song?

If so, the women you're dancing with may be in agony or bored just holding her arm up. This is tiring after a while. If you're holding her arm up for more than 50% of the song, this is YOUR OWN FAULT.

You may want to try "open position" moves and turns to get the blood flowing again in that arm. There's no reason to hold her arm up if she's dead weight. Put her into moves that don't require you to hold up her arm for more than 15 seconds. This will not only improve your dancing, but keep her alert - and prevent the "lazy arm" syndrome.

Let me know how it goes!

    Happy Dancing!
