    A Little Too Much ...

    "Dear Edie,
When I woke up this morning, a little groggy, as I went into the bathroom, I noticed that I was giving the door a lead. I'm not certain, I could be wrong on this, but I think the door complained. - Chris"

    ... a few days later.

    "Dear Edie,
By the way, my door and I have worked out our partnership problems."

      "But I don't want to be a
      boring dancer to them..."

      - from a Budding Salsero
      By Edie, The Salsa FREAK

Some men have a "list" of female dancers they only dream about asking "some day".

Gentlemen, if you want to improve,
you've got to swallow your pride,
and just ask high-caliber females to dance once in a while.

      They won't bite you.

To get better, on occasion, you've got to practice with some of the best female dancers to build your confidence. You'll find that these women are easier to lead, and are familiar with the moves that you've been learning from watching, or taking classes, or are ultimately interested in doing. You can even tell her, "You know what, I'm not that great of a dancer, but I really would like to be. May I have this next dance with you for...

The "Copa" Step - It's Historical Origins from New York

      Dearest Edie,
I have one question and although I suppose they send you hundreds of messages and you don't have time to answer them all,I will ask anyhow...My question is this: is copa a position or all the procedure to bring the lady inside and then take her out again? Is it called ''in and out'' unofficially because most of the times we take the lady out again or because we have to take her out?If it is about the position,is it about the position of the feet or the position of the body? Also, our teacher speaks about open copa postion and closed position...I really want to know your opinion because you are an expert...Thx in advance and keep up the good job!!!

"Dear Edie, I have a situation. I had a dance recently with a woman and we were doing great on the dancefloor until she started "re-affirming" what I was doing, and asking if she did this right, did that right... it was like, "Was I supposed to turn there?.... Did I do too many turns? .... Am I supposed to go left, right... did I step back ok...???" OMG... BY THE END OF THE DANCE I NEVER WANTED TO DANCE WITH HER AGAIN. She's a great follow, don't get me wrong, but after about a minute and half into the song, I did not know how to go about basically telling her to "shut the f.... up" while we are dancing together. I'm telling you, she just about broug...

Dear Edie I live in on the east coast and have followed your articles for years. You are a great inspiration to me. I have a nagging question and just know you are the one to ask. I am 41 years old and a pretty good dancer. I practice all the time. I STUDY dancing...videos, you tube, performances, classes, private lessons, etc. But you know what - my dancing SUCKS (well maybe doesn't suck, but is nowhere near as good) in HIGH heels. I have no fun. I can't spin as well. My dancing is less fluid and relaxed. I am more inhibited. Oh, and I am a single mom. My time to go out dancing is limited....so I have to make the MOST of the FUN when I do have time to go out (I try to make it 1-2 times a week and am lucky when that happens). I have been dancing since 1998 (with a 6 year break while I ...

"Dear Edie, I’m just writing to say hello. I will start by saying what I’m sure hundreds of others have already said: in your brilliant writing you make yourself so plainly understood and convey the complex and wonderful joy of the Salsa experience so clearly that it’s hard not to think of you as an old friend. :-) But I will add this. Although I am a man I am a feminist, and although I work with computers for a living I hate browsing the web. I know you have a strong dislike for ‘feminism’ and you are evidently a Web Freak so why is that I find you so marvelous and your work so utterly precious? Let me deal with the web thing quickly - I don’t really hate the web... I hate browsers and the way they dribble information to the screen. Here is an analogy which I think explains my perspective. Browsing the web is like going to a fine restaurant and ordering an exquisite meal only to find that you are serv...

      "Dear Edie,
I first would like to thank you for an incredible website. However, I have been frequently disappointed by your articles concerning feminism. I have always believed, and I think most feminists and dictionaries would agree with me that a feminist is a person who believes in equality between men and women. Male-bashing does not fit this description because feminism's goal is not to put down either sex. To me dancing is a great metaphor for feminism because in dancing both people have to participate. The man does not drag the woman around, she has to hold her own and move herself. Both people work together to make something beautiful.
