    "Dear Edie,
I am intimidated by Latina women. I am just a white girl going to the Latin clubs in [city], and I feel like (sometimes) the Latina women are thinking "who does that girl think she is?!"
    - Intimidated"

    Dear Intimidated,
This is just in your head. Number one, you don’t have any IDEA what they’re thinking, and number two, who really cares? Stop watching them, and focus on improving YOURSELF. If you cared about what every person thought of you, you would go NUTS trying to accommodate everyone and you would look like an idiot doing it. Don’t expect ANYBODY (not just Latina women) to be very friendly at first until you purposely go out of your way to get to know them, and be nice to them.

Smile, introduce yourself, compliment them on their outfits and dancing abilities, ask their advice, and voila! Friend for life. Works like a charm. Go out of your way to be nice. Even if they’re not nice back to you, be nice anyway. Never give any Salsera an excuse to not like nor appreciate you. You’re all there to dance, so just dance.

Sometimes I get aggravated when people want to talk to me at a club. Number one, the music is so loud I can’t hear them, and number 2, I didn’t go there to talk, I go to dance and get my aerobics in! Sometimes I find myself politely cutting off the conversation when a good song comes on!! I feel bad, but the music just takes me away, and I can’t help it!

It's like I "see you", but I don't have anything to "SAY" to you. NOW LET'S JUST GO DANCE!!!

    Happy Dancing!

      Dear Edie,
I love your website. I am an African American woman that accidentally fell in love with Salsa music and Spanish culture in general. I have spent the entire morning browsing through you site. I have two questions that I would like for you to address.
      1) I have been a tomboy for the majority of my life and walking on heels has not been easy nor pleasant. Is there a rule that says you can't Salsa in flats?????? I look graceful and elegant, but I am secure that I

Dear Salsa Freak, I have just started private Salsa lessons. The challenge I am having is that my wife is now quite an accomplished dancer. The truth is that I just took two classes with her when she started about two years ago, she begged me to go, but because I didn't like "Salsa" at the time, I quit, and told her never to invite me to a club, because I didn't like the "scene". Well, now I never see her anymore, we're having problems, and I thought I may need to start taking a few Salsa lesso...

"Dear Edie, I read your "What its like to compete and have a partner ..." column. Good stuff, but it was written mostly for women. I have an big issue with my dance partner, and I was wondering if you could give me your perspective. She recently moved here from [another country]. I think she is the most talented Latin dancer in the whole [city]. She's a real natural. I have a zillion moves that we practice and use together. She also teaches me some really good moves. She keeps insisting that ...

"Dear Edie, I love Salsa and I love dancing it. The only problem is that I can't do a lot of moves. I know how to dance it a little bit and I look all right but I want to get better . I always watch other people dancing and I want to learn more moves but I don't know how. I do all the same moves all the time. I have a partner that I kind of learned a lot with . We dance together all the time and we practice other moves that other people do. I would like to be a professional Salsa dancer
